The Ballet Academy

Come and be inspired by the joy of dance

The Ballet Academy offers tuition in Ballet and Jazz (ATOD - Australian Teachers of Dance) for students from 5yrs.  Preschool Dance classes from 18months are also offered in which all dance forms are taught to enable the smallest of dancers the opportunity to decide which they prefer.  From 2018 Hip Hop/Street Dance (ATOD - Australian Teachers of Dance) will be offered from 6yrs and this genre will join Contemporary (ATOD) and National Character (ATOD) as well as our Stretch & Conditioning , Artistry & Performance and Adult Classes.

Please Note: Ages are important in the PreSchool classes.  As students continue through the dance levels to reach Ballet - Test Two and  Jazz - Test Two, they have the opportunity to sit dance exams.  There are minimum age requirements when sitting an exam and we do not wish to hold students back in a class, while the friends they have made over the years, progress forward.

2018 Guidelines

*  Please note - we are only starting with a small team at this stage.

*  Each week, three of the competition dancers will attend a special class held on Saturdays at the Studio from 3.30pm - 4.15pm. This means that each student will be be required to attend either three (for new dances) times or twice (for established dances) during the term. The Tuition Fee is $45 per term,  for 3 lessons over the term or $30 for 2 lessons over the term; this does not include the lessons with Miss Melissa/Miss Jess to learn the choreography which is billed at a separate rate.

*  Students are also required to attend private lessons of 25 minutes duration to learn their dances from Miss Melissa or Miss Jess, which will be held later either in Summer Holidays or early in Term One 2018.  Tuition Fees for each lesson will be $25, payable at the start of the lesson.  Each Dancer is unique and will learn at her own individual pace, although in most cases between 8-10 private lessons will be required.

* Parents will need to ensure that students practice the choreography before the next lesson so as to gain as much as possible from each session.

*  Students will need to enter a minimum of two competitions throughout the 2017 year.

*  Students are responsible for working on their dances in their own time.

*  Competition Entry fees are payable by the parent, which normally range from $8-$20 per competition.

*  Parents need to supply blank CDs x 2 for each dance and a memory stick at their first lesson.

*  Students may need to provide their own suitable costume for each dance, which must be approved by Miss Melissa.

*  There are many competitions throughout the year to choose from, located in Christchurch, Greymouth, Ashburton and many more. These are always fun & exciting trips for students and families, with lifelong memories made along the way!
